Wild animal tee shirts.

I am learning to sketch a wild animal and transfer my drawing to a tee shirt.  I used special fabric markers to colour in my design.

Number sentences to 10

I am learning to read and make patterns to 10. I am learning to write the number sentence using the symbols.

"I can count on from a number to 10.  I can write the number sentence." said Anthony

Reading out loud

We are learning to read out loud familiar poems. We are trying to read with fluency and expression. As we get more confident, we can pay attention to the author's punctuation to help our reading sound more interesting.

"I can sound out words I don't know when I read out loud. I can read loudly so everyone can hear" said Anthony

Wonderful writing

At writing time we are learning to experiment with new types of punctuation. We are starting to read our stories back and check we have fullstops and capital letters in the correct places.

" I do so good drawing and finger spaces and I can robot lots of words."

Three letter words.

I am learning to write a three letter word, listening to the beginning, middle and end sounds.  This will help me in my reading.

" I can robot a word to help me read the word." said Anthony

Rocket ship

We have been learning about the solar system this term.  We made a rocket with paper and a straw then blew through the straw to see how far our rocket would travel.  

Measuring Challenges

We were learning to compare similar objects that differ only in length. We were experimenting  with learning to measure with non-standard units.  We were learning to have an accurate starting and finishing point when we measure and use measuring language.

" We were measuring. It was tricky measuring on the carpet. it was so big and long. I had do team work."

I'm on Phonics Fire!

Phonics lessons are a very important part of our Writing programme.

As I get more confident I try tricker things. In this photo I listened to a dictated sentence and then tried to write down what I heard and put in the correct punctuation.
"Next time I will remember capital letter. I getting good."

Day and night

I have been learning about Day and night.  We did an experiment with a globe and a light for the sun.

High frequency words

I am learning to read and write my high frequency words independently.

"I can write and robot the words for reading and story writing."said Anthony

Owl Babies

We are learning to publish our writing for an audience, because we are authors. In Room 3 we try to present our work in many different and interesting ways to encourage people to come and read our fabulous stories!

Beginning sounds

I am learning to make the first sound in new words now that I know my alphabet sounds.

"I can make the sounds that the word starts with" said Anthony

Story Writing

            In the beginning.........                                 and now!

We are learning to write down our ideas and draw a picture to match.

" I can do more now. I try finger space. I do quality work." said Anthony

Counting backwards from 10

I am learning to order the numbers from 10 backwards to 1.  I know I can do that when the numbers are in order and I am able to count backwards.

" I can put 5 in my head and then count on to the number on the dice." said Anthony

Tread Lightly Caravan visit

The Tread lightly Caravan visit was teaching us that the environment is everything around us in nature and that the environment is really important for us to live (trees for oxygen, water to drink, plants for food etc.) so we need to look after it.

"I was looking at the rocks and glass. The glass is sharp and not good."

Kai and Korero Evening

At the start of the year Elm Park School had a Kai and Korero evening. Our families, students and teachers got together to share what happens in our classrooms and then we finished with a picnic.

Anthony said, "My family is so happy."
